I forgot to mention...

That I started potty training Isaiah on Thursday. Seriously I just got sick of diapers...and the two of them have had these yeast infections on and off....so i thought why not.

Today is day 5. I take him every 30 minutes to the bathroom....he wont tell me when he has to go and if i wait longer that 30 minutes....sometimes he will have an accident.

Any suggestions?? Advice??

Should I give up?? He usually is fine with going on the potty just A LOT of work for me if it is going no where. Not to mention Hope is usually in the bathroom with us trying to get into something...usually the toliet where he is going!!

Sounds like you are the one that is trained not him. This worked with Cade:
We stayed home for three days.
He only wore underwear.
I fed him a lot of salty snacks (goldfish, pretzels, etc..) so he would drink alot and therefore have to pee alot.
We sat in the bathroom alot
I made him clean up the floor with a paper towel when he peed on the ground.
He got M & M's every time he successfully peed or pooped in the potty.

The key is getting him to recognize when he feels like he has to go (not because you are asking)because if he is going when you take him there every 30 min. he is not necessarily recognizing on his own when he needs to go (does that make sense?). Once he gets that recognition of the need to go on his own, he will be trained. Just like anything else it takes lots of practice (so let him drink and drink) and patience (relax and think of the end result!).

And only do pull ups for naps and bed, no more diapers.

We start potty training boot camp on Monday! I will let you know how it goes! Carrie went over this with me a few weeks ago...and I'm going to try her plan! Good luck! :)

He usually does drink a lot and goes to the bathroom a lot. I also only use underwear expcept nap time and bedtime (oh and if we have to go out which is not a lot).

But I like the idea of making him clean it up. Usually I do that.

How long does it usally take??

There is no magic number of days. For Cade it was 3, Camryn decided on her own in 1 day and Ana, poor Ana we were on the go so much I confused the poor child and set her back a few times. I don't recommend going back and forth like I did. If you decide to do it stick with it don't go back!

I think it is a big deal for him to spend time in the bathroom with daddy--he's got the correct plumbing!! Let him stand up right beside daddy--and have Dave work with him on the rewards, etc...pretty soon he will want to go on his own--don't worry, then you can teach Hope. It is something they need to learn by imitation, it is not difficult--just like eating or drinking but it is just that we don't usally 'watch' it done--or talk about it--and, use the right words--penis sounds better when they get older than some silly thing people make up to be cute, and takes away the mystery, name ALL the body parts...have fun!!

A couple more things...

He did tell me 3 times yesterday that he had to go to the bathroom...YEAH!! But today would not tell me...but no accidents since I wouldn't wait forever.

He also is finally spacing them out a lot more...like an hour or two.

BUT...he only goes to the bathroom with me. And if I am not around he will usually poop in his pants.

But we are getting there. Hopefully it will be soon:) Thanks for all your advice. Good luck Dani!

Sounds like you are so close!! Keep it up and remember it is a dirty job being a mother!
But the rewards are sweet and someday he will have the same patience with you.

Give the big guy and high five from us! Tell him Cade and Camryn and Ana and Monica and Uncle Doug and Aunt Carrie are so proud of him!!

Progress! That is awesome Mich! :)

This AM when we were talking about buying her big girl panties she said "like Ana" and "May-May go pee pee in isaiah's toilet" Although I think she would have a hard time in that urinal you bought Isaiah! :) Talk to you this weekend! Please tell Isaiah we are proud of him for working on it!
